We are an interactive pre-Hispanic park that, combines art movement theater, culture, music, dance, and the ingredients of the ancestral heritage of the Mayan culture.
Going back in time to when the father of the gods, Itzamná, ruled the cosmos; it is how the legend of the Pueblo del Maiz (Village of the Corn, Corn Village, Maize Village) begins, a story narrated by the holy children of the Corn God, who will welcome you in the Itzamná´s recent to start this amazing tour.
They will guide you through the Mayan jungle after they have been in the underworld, where they collected the first seeds of corn in order to offer them to the Great Gods so our culture and Pueblo del Maiz could be created.
Along the tour, we will visit a CHICLE (chewing gum) camp representing the process of extracting the resin from the big chicozapote tree, to prepare the natural gum or sikte. We will continue the journey to visit the temple of Ixchel, a fertility goddess, in Cuzamil.
Once the offerings are given to Ixchel, the great sacred ceiba will be the connection for the ritual of purification and arrival to Pueblo del Maiz; and once there, the dance in honor to the Corn God will welcome you. The Dance of Fire, dedicated to the venerable Sun, the sounds of the drum, symbol of the heartbeat, will unite all in one in this ceremony full of mysticism where music, dance, and copal will elevate the senses of the spectators.
Each palapa will welcome you with unique activities where you will experience the life of the villagers.
In the palapa dedicated to the Lord of Corn: Hunal-ye, they will know the process for making tortillas, and each visitor will be able to live that process in their own hands and taste ancestral flavors like the sikilpak.
In the palapa of Xunan kab, the female bee, they will prepare themselves natural medicine based on honey and thus will now be carriers of the Mayan medicine heritage. They will visit a colony of Mayan or Melipon bees in their natural environment and discover its qualities that made it a bee of great importance for the Mayan culture.
In the cocoa palapa, dedicated to Ek-chuah, you will be able to observe the process of preparing chocolate as food and as a
beverage, in addition to experimenting with the preparation of your own chocolate in a metate. The Soskil palapa will show the
importance of using this fiber extracted from the henequen plant, its uses in the village life. Weave and braid the fiber to make ropes of different thicknesses. Surprise yourself by trying the lost drink of the Mayans, the Pulque.
